Energy transition in Brunei Darussalam's context, goes beyond adding renewables. It is also about the responsible and strategic integration of traditional oil and gas with cleaner energy sources to sustain economic growth, safeguard energy security and fulfil climate commitments. Speaking at the ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of BSP's Flagship Solar Photovoltaic Plant in Seria, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy as Brunei Shell Joint Venture Deputy Chairman, further added that such initiatives reflects the collaboration between government, industry business and community in advancing the country's energy transition.
The new expansion covers over three hectare of land that will deliver an additional three megawatt peak of energy capacity generating approximately 4,500 megawatt hour of power annually. The solar expansion will provide a clean source of energy for BSP head office offsetting approximately three thousand metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions from energy consumption annually.
